First Date (game/activity 3)

I asked Challice to talk about her first date with Billy...what stood out? Did anything embarrassing happen? Did she think it was going to go farther than just a few dates? Etc.

Here's what she said:

It was my junior year when I had met Billy Parker. After only a few months of knowing each other, we became good friends and spent hours talking on the phone. We laughed and learned more about each other's lives and it wasn't long until i realized i really like this guy. I still remember the way my cheeks hurt as I smiled when I saw that he had texted me. I remember looking at my call log as it recorded our longest call of 5 hours, 13 minutes and 22 seconds. Even that didn't seem long enough. After a few weeks of phone calls, side hugs and notes, I decided to tell him how I feel. Well, actually, I had to explain the text message i sent to my friend - ABOUT HIM - that i accidentally sent TO HIM! Once I had talked to him about the way I feel, he had told about how he had just gotten out of a long term relationship a few months prior and was not ready to be in another one. Of course this sucked to hear, but I knew that I still wanted him in my life, so I responded with saying "Okay, well we can just be friends then." As he tells me now, the moment I said we could be friends, was the moment he saw me as more than one.

Easter was approaching and our youth leaders had asked us to perform a skit for the Easter service. Due to needed practice, Billy had invited me to come over to his house that coming Sunday to practice our skit. Of course I accepted!...And also requested that we watch the movie.....wait for it....Twilight. Okay, don't judge, I was a teenager and it was a big thing at that time. He agreed, just to see what all of this young vampire love was about.
So, Sunday came, and we were told that due to short notice, we were no longer expected to do the skit. I was hoping it wouldn't ruin my plans with Billy. He said "well I guess you dont have to come over anymore" to which i responded saying "Can I still come over anyway?" He shrugged and said "sure"

As I arrived at his house, my heart had reached the same pace of beating that I felt when I had just run, or when I had to make a presentation or if a movie had reached a point of suspense....it was fast, okay? Well, when he invited me in, I said hello to his mother and then he asked me if he could take my jacket. Now, any normal person....any normal, nervous and sweaty person, would take the jacket off...I am not normal. I said no thank you and kindly accepted his next offer for a glass of water. I then followed him into the living room where I sat on the couch as he attempted to turn the dvd player on. Well, the dvd player wasnt working. Plan B - Laptop.Obviously not excited for the movie, Billy took the disk from me and looked at it in a way that expressed 'oh boy, what am i getting myself into'

He then came and sat to my left, about a foot away. Remember that heart rate?..still there. The movie started. About 20 minutes into the movie, he moved closer next to me, so that his legs and my legs were separated only enough to fit maybe a cell phone. You can imagine my heart at this point. And as he slowly put his right around around me, thats when I was sure that I had the wrong house. What is he doing? Friends dont do that! But, really, I'm not complaining. So, then we finished the movie and I left. Ha, just kidding, not only 10 minutes later as i'm "watching" the movie, I feel a kiss on my cheek. No, I did not look at him or say anything, but i did smile and sit confused for a while. Uhm, sorry sir, but I think you like me. A few minutes later, he kissed my cheek again and then said "Im sorry, I dont know why I keep doing that " and nervous frozen me barely said "its okay." Now shortly after this, I was looking at him and you can imagine my heart as I saw his face coming closer to mine, it happened in .5 seconds and i touched my lips to his, kissing the man who I thought had no intention of being more than my friend. He looked surprised at me and it also took .5 seconds to realize he wasnt leaning into kiss me, but was reaching for the charger that now resided in his hand. I was so embarrassed and I know he could tell as I said "i'm so sorry," but in the most unexpected response that still makes me smile today, he grabbed my hand and said "Don't be." Okay, so now we finished the movie - and held hands the entire time. April 5th 2009 was one of the best days of my life as it lead to us becoming a couple the next day. We were young, we made dumb decisions, had dumb arguments. We laughed and made memories. Throughout the good and the bad, we grew. Now going on 6 years together, I wouldn't change anything, because it has all made me love him more. I'm approaching another "best day of my life," but that first date will always be the start of this amazing journey that we have been on and continue to take.

Now that you've heard Challice's story about her and Billy's first date, tell us your first date story in the comment section below. Whether it be with a spouse, significant other, or the story of the first date you ever had, share it with us. Challice will pick whichever one sticks out to her as the most unique.

The winner will get 2 points.

Happy story-telling!

  1. My first "real" date with Chris actually didn't happen until after we had been dating--our one month anniversary. I spent the whole day an anxious disaster preparing for our date. I had been planning my outfit for days, and probably annoyed Challice to death talking about hair and makeup. She helped me get ready ;)
I went up to her room about an hour and a half before he got there and let her do my hair, got dressed, and had some tea to try to calm my nerves. I about had a heart attack when he texted me that he was there to pick me up. She did her best to calm me down as she walked me to the lobby, and laughed that he seemed nervous too. He hugged me and told me I looked nice, and we let Challice take our picture. He hadn't told me where we were going or anything, so it was all a surprise. He took me to Outback Steakhouse for dinner, and had made reservations and everything. He prayed before we ate and it made me cry ;) After dinner, he took me to see Brave which had just come out recently. Everything was still pretty new to us, and exciting. When we got back to school, we exchanged presents and cards. If I recall correctly, he got me a box of chocolates, and we laughed when we opened cards and realized we'd gotten each other almost the exact same one. (I also got flowers :) )
We had spent a lot of time hanging out one on one and stuff before we started dating, but that was our first date :D

  2. It wasn't a date, but the first time a saw or noticed Wally. I was working at the county clerk's office and they had a mixed league softball team I played on. We were playing a game on a field where two fields were opposite one another, with the outfields overlapping. I played outfield, and at one point I felt someone watching me. I turned around and this guy was standing about 10 feet from me (playing outfield for the other game in progress at the same time) and he had this goofy look on his face. I thought he must be drunk. The next day a mutual friend came to me at work and asked if I would go out with this guy if he asked me. I told her I wasn't in junior high any more and he could come and ask me himself. He did, and the rest is history.

  4. Taylor and I's first date was so strange ;)
We both had swine flu....yes, swine flu. We were bored and sick of our rooms so we decided to go to pizza hut together.
My dad called to check on me and when he found out I was at Pizza Hut instead of resting, I skipped the part about being our with a guy ;)
